Baby Kicks 101

Baby’s Kicks 101
Feeling your baby's kicks is an incredible and magical experience during pregnancy. These movements not only signify your baby's growth and development but also create a unique bond between you and your little one.
Here are some key aspects to understand about baby's kicks:
  • When to expect them: Most women start feeling their baby's first movements, also known as "quickening," between 18 and 25 weeks of pregnancy.
  • What they feel like: Initially, the kicks may feel like gentle flutters or bubbles. As your baby grows, you'll experience stronger movements, including kicks, punches, and rolls.
  • Patterns and variations: Each baby has their own movement patterns. Some babies are more active during certain times of the day, while others may have a preference for certain positions.
  • Counting kicks: In the later stages of pregnancy, your healthcare provider may recommend kick counting as a way to monitor your baby's well-being. This involves tracking the frequency and strength of your baby's movements.
Decoding Baby's Messages: Understanding the Meaning of Kicks 🗣️📝
While baby's kicks are mostly a sign of their well-being and activity, they can also convey important messages. Here are some insights into what baby's kicks might mean:
  • Comfort and contentment: Gentle and rhythmic movements often indicate that your baby is comfortable and content in the womb.
  • Active and awake: Sudden bursts of vigorous kicks may mean that your baby is awake and active, exploring their surroundings.
  • Response to stimuli: Your baby may respond to external stimuli, such as sounds or touch, with increased movements.
  • Position changes: As your baby adjusts their position in the womb, you may feel a series of movements or rolling sensations.
Bonding and Engaging with Baby's Kicks 🤗🌟
Feeling your baby's kicks is not only a physical sensation but also an opportunity for bonding and engaging with your little one. Here are some ways to make the most of this joyful experience:
  • Relax and focus: Find a quiet and comfortable space to sit or lie down, allowing yourself to fully concentrate on feeling your baby's movements.
  • Talk and sing: Your voice is soothing and familiar to your baby. Talk, sing, or read aloud, and notice how your baby responds with their kicks.
  • Gentle touch: Place your hand on your belly, gently applying pressure. Your baby may respond with a kick or nudge.
  • Involve your partner: Encourage your partner to join in the experience by placing their hand on your belly and feeling the kicks together.
Trusting the Process: Seeking Professional Advice 🤝👩‍⚕️
While baby's kicks are generally a positive sign, it's essential to trust your instincts and seek medical advice if you notice any significant changes or have concerns about your baby's movements.
Your healthcare provider is there to guide and support you throughout your pregnancy journey, providing reassurance and addressing any potential issues.
Enjoy every precious moment of feeling your baby's kicks, as they are a beautiful reminder of the incredible life growing within you. Cherish these experiences and continue to nurture the bond with your little one. 💕

My first movement was at 17 weeks. But kicks started at maybe 21 weeks. I have an anterior placenta so my kicks aren’t as big and crazy like some people and that’s totally normal

This is not my first pregnancy so I felt them sooner with this one. My son(my first) I felt after 20 weeks. Not odd to not feel baby until 24 weeks with first. It feels like flutters

At this point, there isn’t a moment when this baby isn’t moving! I sit down, he kicks. I stand up, he kicks. I lay down, he kicks. He better keep that same energy for his ultrasound today lol
