Do’s and Don’ts of Early Pregnancy

Do’s and Don’ts of Early Pregnancy
Pregnancy Do’s: Ensuring a Healthy Journey
Take a Prenatal Multivitamin
Why? Even with a balanced diet, you may need extra nutrients for your baby’s growth.
Key Nutrients: Folic acid, calcium, and iron support fetal development and prevent birth defects.
Advice: Choose a prenatal vitamin recommended by your doctor. Avoid overconsumption.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Why? Rest is crucial for your and your baby’s health, especially as your body works harder during pregnancy.
How Much? Aim for 7-9 hours nightly, plus naps as needed.
Stay Active
Benefits: Exercise helps with insomnia, muscle pain, mood regulation, and managing weight gain.
Recommendation: Continue pre-pregnancy routines or start a doctor-approved exercise program.
Eat Seafood Wisely
Benefits: Offers omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and iron.
Caution: Avoid raw and high-mercury fish. Limit intake to 12 ounces per week.
Enjoy Sex
Guidance: Generally safe unless you have specific complications. Discuss any concerns with your doctor.
Practice Yoga
Choice: Opt for prenatal or gentle yoga, avoiding hot yoga.
Tip: If new to yoga, consult with your doctor before starting.
Get Vaccinated
Action: Ensure you’re up to date with your flu shot, protecting both you and your baby.
Safety: The flu vaccine is safe and recommended during pregnancy.
Gain Weight Smartly
Focus: Nutritional quality over quantity. Adjust calorie intake as recommended by trimester.
Visit Your Dentist
Importance: Oral health affects overall pregnancy wellness.
Recommendation: Inform your dentist of your pregnancy for appropriate care.
Pregnancy Don’ts: What to Avoid for Safety
Avoid Smoking
Risks: Low birth weight, learning disabilities, and early nicotine addiction in children.
Steer Clear of Alcohol
Why? Can lead to fetal alcohol syndrome, affecting your baby’s health and development.
Say No to Raw Meat
Risks: Foodborne illnesses like listeriosis and toxoplasmosis, which can lead to severe birth defects.
Avoid Deli Meats
Precaution: Processed meats can harbor harmful bacteria unless thoroughly cooked.
Skip Unpasteurized Milk Products
Caution: Can contain dangerous bacteria such as Listeria, leading to serious health issues.
Refrain from Hot Tubs and Saunas
Why? High temperatures can increase the risk of miscarriage and birth defects.
Limit Caffeine Intake
Guideline: A cup or two of coffee is generally safe, but avoid excessive caffeine.
Don't Clean the Cat’s Litter Box
Reason: To avoid the risk of toxoplasmosis, which can have severe effects on your pregnancy.

Hey everyone! I’m very early on in my pregnancy, approximately 5 weeks. I see a midwife at the end of February, but I read that they don’t do ultrasounds. Anyone have experience with a midwife and what to expect?

Do you mean just at the facility you plan to go to? Because in general from my history and per Google- Most midwives offer referrals to medical imaging professionals in order to obtain ultrasounds as needed or desired. Many midwives are skilled in drawing blood, have a lab account and will order the blood and urine tests that you choose as part of your care. I had a midwife with my 15.5 year old but at a VA hospital and had all the standard labs and scans. I know some home birthing places with midwives and doulas may prefer less invasive, but typically can order and schedule imaging at local hospitals, but still give you that alternate birthing experience hun.

Hey y’all, I’m 5w3d and ever since I found about about my pregnancy I’ve been experiencing really sensitive and tender breast. Today I don’t feel them sensitive much like they were and I read once if you stop feeling the pregnancy symptoms it can be an early sign of a miscarriage. 🥺😞 I do still feel tired with really mild back pain.

Tbh idk if I took a digital test they still probably not going to see it on there end end tbh I still believe I’m pregnant that’s what I believe idc if the blood test came back negative it’s a possibility I took the blood test to early and all my test I’m taking and still faint positive till this day and I believe it might be too early to tell even tho u said it’s an indent line to u I really don’t need the negativity rn

Hey I’m 10 weeks pregnant it’s my first pregnancy and I’m nauseous all the time and can barely eat. I have no appetite for food and don’t crave anything to eat. Any advice on what you did during early pregnancy to eat?
