What is the average baby weight by month?

What is the average baby weight by month?
Weight is one indicator of a baby’s physical development.
Children develop at different paces, but growth charts can provide a guide to how much a baby should weigh, on average.
Average Baby Weights:
  • Average birth weight for full-term male babies: 7 lb 6 oz or 3.3 kg.
  • Average birth weight for full-term female babies: 7 lb 2 oz or 3.2 kg.
  • Average weight range for babies born at 37–40 weeks: 5 lb 8 oz to 8 lb 13 oz or 2.5 to 4 kg.
  • Low birth weight at delivery: Less than 5 lb 8 oz or 2.5 kg.
  • Babies commonly lose around 10% of their birth weight after birth, usually due to fluid loss.
Baby Weight Chart by Age:
  • Birth:
Female: 7 lb 2 oz (3.2 kg)
Male: 7 lb 6 oz (3.3 kg)
  • 1 month:
Female: 9 lb 4 oz (4.2 kg)
Male: 9 lb 14 oz (4.5 kg)
  • 2 months:
Female: 11 lb 5 oz (5.1 kg)
Male: 12 lb 4 oz (5.6 kg)
  • 3 months:
Female: 12 lb 14 oz (5.8 kg)
Male: 14 lb 1 oz (6.4 kg)
What to Expect:
  • Babies experience rapid growth within the first 6 months, gaining around 4–7 oz (113–200 g) per week.
  • Weight gain slows slightly from 6 to 18 months, with an average gain of 3–5 oz (85–140 g) per week.
  • Babies usually triple their birth weight by their first birthday.
  • Growth patterns vary, and some babies experience growth spurts.
Factors Affecting Baby Weight:
  • Weight is not the sole indicator of development; length and head circumference also matter.
  • Babies grow at different rates and sizes, but steady growth is essential.
  • Baby's sex influences weight; males tend to be larger.
  • Nutrition plays a role, with breastfed babies initially gaining more weight than formula-fed babies.
  • Medical conditions can lead to slower weight gain.
  • Premature babies may grow and gain weight more slowly initially but often catch up by their first birthday.
Summary:
  • Average birth weights vary by sex and term.
  • Weight charts help track a baby's development but are just one aspect.
  • Doctors consider various indicators of growth, including milestones.
  • Medical history helps rule out factors affecting weight gain.
Remember that every baby is unique, and their growth trajectory may differ from the averages.
Regular checkups with healthcare professionals help monitor a baby's overall development and ensure they are thriving.

My doctor told me my baby boy is 1lb 9 onz at 23 weeks which she said was perfect. But for my first pregnancy my baby was 1 lb 0onz at 26 weeks and was born with 8 lb 5oz so don’t worry the last three months is where they go up.

Had an ultrasound at 24 weeks and baby girl was measuring 1 pound 7 ounces and they said she was in 19th percentile in weight but when I look up the average weight for 24 weeks she would be a little above average, what did everyone else's babies weigh around there?

My baby was born at 35 weeks 2 days so a preemie weighing 5lbs 4oz I took her with me after they said her tummy was healing well from surgery which was almost at 3 weeks and her weight was 6lbs 5 oz went the week after that to check her weight again and was weighing 7lbs 2oz. She had her intestines out so they did her surgery 4days after she was born (Friday ) and they didn’t feed her till that coming Friday. They said bc of her digestive problem she was doing really good with weight. I hope this month she weighs more I mean she feels heavier but I just want my baby healthy and growing 😩
