Your body at 4 weeks of pregnancy

Your body at 4 weeks
At the four-week mark, a significant physiological milestone has been reached with the cessation of your menstrual period, indicating it's the opportune moment for a pregnancy test.
Instead of the uterus lining shedding your fertilized egg is implanting.
By this stage, the concentration of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your body has escalated sufficiently to yield a positive result on home pregnancy tests.

No symptoms

Early pregnancy manifestations can vary widely among individuals, reflecting the diverse physiological responses to pregnancy.
Common symptoms at this juncture may include:
PMS-like Symptoms: A subset of individuals may experience symptoms mimicking premenstrual syndrome.
Mood Fluctuations: Hormonal surges contribute to mood variability.
Nausea: Frequently reported, with some experiencing vomiting, attributable to increased hCG levels.
Absence of Symptoms: Notably, a portion of pregnant individuals may not exhibit any discernible symptoms at this stage.
Your body is producing hCG, the hormone responsible for positive pregnancy tests.

What's happening right now?
The transformations your body undergoes in these initial weeks are primarily driven by pregnancy hormones
The surge in hCG levels is known for triggering nausea and food sensitivities.
Concurrently, progesterone levels rise, leading to muscle relaxation and increased fatigue.
Mood swings are a direct consequence of fluctuating hormone levels impacting mood, energy, and sleep patterns.
These early adaptations are part of the body's natural preparation for sustaining pregnancy.
Top asked questions
How can I be sure I am pregnant?

Take a home pregnancy test, or either a urine or blood test, to confirm if you are pregnant.

How reliable are home pregnancy tests?

They are highly reliable with accuracy rates of over 99% if taken correctly and at the right time.

How quickly should I be seeing the doctor?

It's recommended to see a doctor at around 6-8 weeks of pregnancy, for your 1st prenatal visit.

What does hCG mean?

hCG (which stands for human chorionic gonadotropin) levels rise to confirm pregnancy and track fetal development.

Do I share the news yet?

It's a personal choice. Some prefer to wait until later when the risk of miscarriage is lower.

Hi ladies, congrats 🎊 I’m currently 4w and 5 days, I was feeling terrible 3 days ago. Terrible nausea, boobs hurt, super bloated. Now I’m not feeling any symptoms. Is this normal? Has anyone else don’t feel pregnant at all? Please help.

I'm 9 weeks and feel like I just now feeling any type of nausea. My boobs have been tender for awhile. I was worried also but once I had my first ultrasound and saw my little peanut it was like I felt more than normal. Because it became real when I saw the heart beat. So just be patient and feel blessed. You're growing a tiny human. Symptoms will come soon enough.

Hi I'm a mom of 2 boys, 14 and 5. I've just found out last week that I'm 4w 2d pregnant with my rainbow baby, had a miscarriage last year at 8 weeks. Just wondering if there are any moms that are extremely gassy, what has helped you in relieving a gassy tummy.

Know the warning signs of dehydration. You may need IV fluids if you continue to not be able to keep anything down.

Super silly question, but any FTM still shocked when you don’t get your period?😂 I’m 31 and have been getting my period since I was 13/14 so quite a while and will be 33w tomorrow. When I first got pregnant I never had any symptoms other than a positive at home pregnancy test at exactly 4w and hadn’t gotten my first ultrasound yet and up until then, me not getting my period was another confirmation of my pregnancy lol Our bodies are truly amazing🥰
