My baby at 5 weeks of pregnancy

Your Baby at 5 Weeks
As big as a grain of rice
Length
.13
Weight
<.04
At this stage of development, the measurement from crown to rump becomes crucial due to the embryonic posture, with bent legs making it challenging to gauge the full body length accurately.

Currently, your baby measures approximately 0.13 inch, akin to a grain of rice or a sesame seed, highlighting the minute yet significant growth occurring within.
What's new this week?
Baby’s Changes Overview
Open 3D Baby to see all changes
  • Blood Circulation: Interestingly, your baby's blood system is separate from yours, meaning the baby might have a different blood type from you or your partner.

  • Nutritional Link: The dietary connection is established, indicating the baby's reliance on your intake for nourishment.

  • Rapid Growth: Remarkably, the baby's length is expected to double within just a week, underscoring the swift pace of developmental progress.

  • Facial and Limb Development: The formation of the baby's head, including the jaws, cheeks, chin, and ear canals, is underway.
Limb buds are also emerging, which will evolve into arms and legs.

  • Sensory and Organ Formation: The optic ventricle, which will develop into the eyes, and a four-chambered heart, are in the preliminary stages of development. The heart is poised to begin beating this week.

  • Respiratory and Nervous System Development: Initiatives to form the lungs and spinal cord are in progress, essential for future breathing and neurological functions.

  • Placental Growth: While still in its initial stages, the placenta is actively developing to supply essential nutrients and oxygen, alongside filtering waste.
With the baby's heart beginning to take shape, akin to the size of a sesame seed, this week may also be when you schedule your initial healthcare visit to confirm the pregnancy.

How big was your baby weighing at your anatomy scan? At 20 weeks and 2 day baby boy is already a 1lb. Now I have to go back when I'm 24 weeks for fetal growth .
