Baby’s Changes Overview
Open 3D Baby to see all changes
  • Proportional Growth: Interestingly, the fetus' head currently constitutes about 25% of its body, indicating the significant development of the brain and skull.

  • Early Reflexes: Hiccups may already be occurring within the womb, showcasing the development of the diaphragm and respiratory system, although it's a rarer phenomenon at this stage.

  • Limbs and Tail: The fingers and toes are becoming more distinct, with the reduction of webbing, and the embryonic tail has disappeared.

  • Eye Development: The formation of the retinas begins this week, laying the groundwork for your baby's future eye color and vision.

  • Gender Differentiation: While it's too early to determine through ultrasound, the foundational development of the genitalia is underway.

  • Internal Organ Growth: The intestines are forming, initially extending into the umbilical cord due to limited space in the abdomen, a temporary adaptation for waste management.
As your baby grows to the size of a blueberry, complete with developing limbs, this period often marks the commencement of more frequent prenatal visits to ensure both your well-being and that of your baby.

Helping your baby's development
  • Nutritional Variety: Emphasize a diet rich in colorful fruits and vegetables to provide a spectrum of essential vitamins and minerals.

  • Eliminate Harmful Habits: Now is the time to quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption, prioritizing your baby's health and development.

  • Prenatal Vitamins: Consult with your healthcare provider about starting a prenatal vitamin regimen to ensure you're receiving all necessary nutrients for both you and your baby.

  • Positive Environment: Surround yourself with a supportive and positive circle, contributing to your emotional well-being and stress reduction.
Top Asked Questions
Is spotting during early pregnancy normal?

Light spotting can be normal in early pregnancy, often due to implantation. However, if bleeding is heavy or accompanied by pain, consult your healthcare provider.

When can I hear my baby's heartbeat?

Your healthcare provider may be able to detect the baby's heartbeat using a Doppler device around week 10 to 12. Ultrasound can also show the heartbeat earlier.

What foods should I focus on for a healthy pregnancy?

Prioritize foods rich in folic acid, iron, calcium, and protein. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and dairy products are excellent choices.

What prenatal tests should I consider?

At this stage, you may discuss prenatal testing options with your healthcare provider. Common tests include the first-trimester screening and cell-free DNA testing.

Don’t worry yourself. Every pregnancy is different. I didn’t start feeling fluttering till around 14 weeks. I also have an anterior placenta which means placenta is in the front rather than the back, so it’s harder for me to feel movement. You’ll feel them flutters soon enough mama!
