Baby’s Changes Overview
Open 3D Baby to see all changes
  • Nutritional Source: The embryo continues to derive nourishment from the yolk sac, a crucial component of early development.

  • Physical Development: The tail that was once present has now disappeared, and the baby's eyes are capable of movement within their sockets.

  • Fetal Transition: Celebrating a pivotal moment, we transition from the embryonic to the fetal stage of development, focusing on the maturation and functional integration of major organs and systems.

  • Morphological Changes: The fetus is adopting a more rounded, distinctly human head shape, with internal organs not only in place but beginning to operate in concert.

  • Mobility: Muscle and nerve development enable the fetus to move and wiggle within the uterus, a sign of growing strength and coordination.

  • Digit Differentiation: Fingers and toes are elongating, with the webbing between them receding, making those tiny extremities even more defined.

  • Sensory and Structural Development: Eyes, eyelids, ears, working arm joints, bones, and cartilage are all in various stages of formation, underscoring the complexity of fetal growth at this stage.
This week's advancements signal a time of rapid growth and development, making it an ideal moment to begin planning for your baby's arrival.

Helping baby's development
  • Vaccinations: Discuss with your healthcare provider about getting vaccinated against infections such as the flu, which can impact your baby's development.

  • Oral Hygiene: Maintain diligent oral care by brushing and flossing regularly to reduce the risk of gum disease and other oral health issues during pregnancy.

  • Dietary Precautions: Avoid raw or undercooked meats and seafood to prevent foodborne illnesses like Listeria and Toxoplasmosis, which pose risks to your baby.

  • Vitamin D Intake: Ensure adequate vitamin D levels, either through sunlight exposure or supplementation, to support your baby's bone development and reduce the risk of low birth weight.
Top Asked Questions
How is the brain developing at 9 weeks?

At 9 weeks, your baby's brain is growing rapidly. Nerve cells are multiplying quickly, and the neural pathways are beginning to form. This is a critical time for brain development.

What's happening with my baby's limbs at 9 weeks?

By this week, your baby's limbs are growing longer and becoming more proportionate to the rest of the body. The hands and feet are developing, but still webbed, preparing for further refinement in the coming weeks.

Is my baby's skeletal system developing at 9 weeks?

Yes, the skeletal system is starting to form. Bones begin as cartilage and will gradually harden. The backbone and ribs are forming, providing structure and support to your baby's body.

How are my baby's vital organs developing at this stage?

At 9 weeks, vital organs such as the liver, kidneys, and brain are developing and starting to function, though they are still immature. The liver is starting to produce red blood cells, a task that the bone marrow will eventually take over.

You usually don’t feel movement until 2nd trimester. It depends for everyone but I’d say closer to half way through 2nd trimester is a good guess
