Understanding Intrauterine Growth Restriction

Understanding Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR)
🌸 Let's embark on a fascinating journey into the magical world of your blooming baby bump:
Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) might sound a tad serious, but fret not – we're here to make it a walk in the park, infusing a touch of medical insight with a sprinkle of joy. 🏥
What Exactly is IUGR?
Imagine your womb as the coziest cocoon for your little peanut:
IUGR, which stands for Intrauterine Growth Restriction, takes place when your baby decides to pause their growth journey, almost like a curious explorer taking a break. 🛑🌱
Why Does IUGR Happen?
Let's dive a bit deeper into the marvels of baby science:
  • IUGR arises from issues like placental miscommunication, where the placenta, usually a star communicator of nutrients and oxygen, faces a momentary mix-up. 🌟
  • Occasionally, the gallant placenta encounters hurdles in maintaining optimal blood flow, often linked to tricky adversaries like high blood pressure or preeclampsia – a minor antagonist in the grand saga of pregnancy. 👩‍⚕️💥
Scan Criteria: Unveiling the Inside Story
Get ready, superhero mama, because knowledge is power! 🦸‍♀️
  • Ultrasound scans become your sidekick in the mission to monitor IUGR. These scans reveal intricate details about your baby's growth and well-being.
  • Medical wizards rely on specific measurements during scans to spot IUGR early. Keep these criteria in your superhero utility belt:
What Can You Do About It?
You're not just a superhero mama; you're an informed one! 🛡️
  • Forge an unbreakable bond with your healthcare sidekicks – your doctors and specialists.
  • Treasure those prenatal appointments, where scans and expert advice converge to create a safety net for your baby's growth. 🎢
  • Elevate your baby's growth potential by embracing a superhero diet: load up on colorful veggies, lean protein sources, and don't forget the superstar omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish. 🥗🍗🐟
The Bright Future Ahead
Gather 'round, for the future holds so much brilliance! ✨
  • Keeping tabs on IUGR and heeding the counsel of your healthcare team keeps you in the captain's seat of this incredible pregnancy voyage.
  • Cherish every jiggle, wiggle, and kick from your tiny sidekick.
  • You're fostering not just growth, but a love that knows no bounds. Your little one is enveloped in warmth and care! ❤️👶

This my 4th pregnancy and I’ve been high risk with them all, my babies was IGR (intrauterine growth restriction) that caused me to have my babies early and they was all born like 4lbs and some ounces. I started leaking fluids again just like my previous (which the doctor said it was from my amniotic fluids) but this time a few mins ago it was a lot some like pee. I’m not sure if it was amniotic fluids or was it just normal discharge . I’m scared to go to the ER about it cause I’m only 16 weeks.

Go just to be sure. Especially if it’s not normal for you.

Anybody Else Anatomy Scan Come Back && Is Told That Baby’s Stomach Is Measuring Smaller Than It Should Be? It’s Call Intra Uterine Growth Restriction (IUGR)…I Didn’t Experience This With My 2 Daughters So I’m Kind Of Clueless 😩 I Just Pray My Boo Continues To Grow To Full Term && Be Super Healthy 🙏🏽🙏🏽

A little hope for mommies that have intrauterine/ fetal growth restriction! I was told my girl was in the 1st percentile, when I had her at 34 weeks and 3 days she weighed 4.3 pounds. The average weight for a fetus at 34 weeks is 4.7 pounds, so my baby was not in the first percentile. I was just mad that my baby was small because of my body but she was in the 2.5 percentile when she was born. That’s still pretty small but I think if she had more time to develop and grow in me than she would have been at least above the 5th percentile. Just wait until the third trimester!

It doesn't seem small to me. But they also said my son was small at 6lbs at 38 weeks.

Congratulations! I’m having my IUGR baby next Friday! He some how bumped up to the ninth percentile. I was wondering how accurate the last estimated weight was to what baby came out at…? How many days after last scan was baby born? Trying to see if their five lb estimate will be accurate

Anatomy Scan Today I had my anatomy scan and they said I need to come back in next week to see if my pregnancy is high risk because she’s very small and they would have predicted she would have been due in May by her size. Her original due date was 03/13/23 so I’m very concerned. I’ve been taking the prenatal vitamins and I’ve always been underweight but now I’ve gained over 30 pounds, Intrauterine growth restriction runs in my family. I’m terrified that I did something wrong, I feel her kicking all night so I thought she was on track but I’ll update y’all when the time comes. Thanks for reading.

They said I could get amniocentesis preformed if I want to but I don’t know. I’ve already got nipt done and tested negative for genetic abnormalities
