Pooping During Childbirth: How to Handle It

Pooping During Childbirth
Pooping during childbirth, also known as fecal incontinence, is a common concern for many expectant mothers. It's essential to know that this is a natural and normal part of the birthing process for some women.
Why Does Pooping During Childbirth Happen?
  • Pooping during childbirth occurs because of the pressure exerted on the rectum during the pushing phase of labor. As your baby descends through the birth canal, their head places pressure on the surrounding pelvic organs, including the rectum.
  • The same muscles that are responsible for pushing your baby out also contribute to bowel movements. So, when you push, it's common to experience bowel movement as well.
Remember: It's Normal and No One is Judging
  • It's crucial to remember that pooping during childbirth is entirely normal. Healthcare providers are well accustomed to this natural occurrence and are not fazed by it. Their primary focus is on your well-being and the safe delivery of your baby.
  • The birthing environment is a space of support and understanding, where medical professionals and birthing partners are there to provide encouragement and care, not judgment.
Ways to Manage Stress and Anxiety
  • Education and preparation can help alleviate some of the stress associated with pooping during childbirth. Attend childbirth classes or talk to your healthcare provider about what to expect during labor and delivery, including this aspect.
  • Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or visualization to help calm your nerves and reduce anxiety during labor.
  • Focus on the bigger picture: You are about to meet your precious baby! The joy of bringing new life into the world often outweighs any concerns about bodily functions during childbirth.
The Role of Rectal Enemas
  • In some cases, healthcare providers may use rectal enemas as part of the birthing process to help ensure the rectum is empty before childbirth.
  • Rectal enemas can be beneficial for specific medical reasons, such as reducing the likelihood of bowel movements during labor or ensuring a clear view of the birth canal during certain medical procedures.
  • However, it's essential to remember that rectal enemas are medical procedures and should only be administered under the guidance and supervision of a healthcare professional.

Maybe he doesn’t like the milk, is it formula? But baby’s stomachs are getting use to everything also. So maybe its just hurting to poop.
