Should I be afraid of tearing during childbirth?

If you are about to give birth and you are afraid that your perineum will tear during delivery, don't worry—it's possible to avoid it or, if necessary, to speed up the healing.

  • The perineum is a relatively flexible muscle that is able to stretch to let your baby pass through, so nature has taken care of everything.
  • However, the risk of injury cannot be ruled out, for example, if the child presents badly.
  • In the event of a tear, the doctor will sew up the wound immediately after the placenta has been expelled.
  • Before you give birth, the midwife will give you as many tips as possible to avoid tears.
