Do sushi and breastfeeding go together?

Wondering if the list of dietary restrictions is as long as it is during pregnancy? Here's everything you need to know about eating sushi while breastfeeding.

  • Rest assured that many of the foods that are forbidden during pregnancy are safe to eat while breastfeeding, and sushi is one of them!
  • Most fish are no longer a problem.
  • Some fish, however, may contain heavy metals and other contaminants and are not forbidden, but to avoid any risk for your baby, it's recommended not to exceed a portion of 150 grams per month.
  • Among the most concerned and most common fish in this group are shark, swordfish, and tuna (except canned tuna).

as long as it’s cooked you should be okay, i’d recommend checking in with OB first :)

So there has been people that have eaten it throughout their whole pregnancy and been fine. But for me, I stick to the California rolls and stay away from the raw fish just in case. Now deli meat I do eat, but I microwave it first to kill any bacteria.

Cooked is tolerable and can take the edge off until you can have all the raw goodies

You def can as long as it’s cooked! Just limit how much seafood you eat a week and get low mercury fish. So no tuna

I eaten cooked sushi. So like shrimp tempura roll was what I would eat every once in a while during pregnancy. Honestly I eaten hotdogs, and deli meat in the microwave my second pregnancy. My kid came out fine! I was told the one thing that you really have to worry about it lettuce. That carries a lot and your more prone to get stuff from that then anything else!

Get the cooked sushi. There’s lots of debate but better to be safe. I had food poisoning at 8 weeks and it wasn’t fun
