Do alcohol and breastfeeding go together?

If you love fine wines, cocktails, or beer, you'd like to know if you can drink alcohol while breastfeeding without putting your baby at risk. Here's the answer.

  • Rest assured that after 9 months of deprivation, you will be able to drink alcohol again.
  • However, your consumption must remain moderate and follow certain rules.
  • Alcohol passes into your milk between 1 and 3 hours after you drink it, so wait at least 3 hours before breastfeeding to ensure that you can feed your baby safely.
  • Another solution is to express your milk just before drinking alcohol.
  • This is a more flexible solution that allows you to have milk at all times, which can be practical if your baby is hungry before the 3-hour deadline.

Has anyone drank alcohol (wine) while breastfeeding? Is there a way to do this or can I not drink any alcohol while breastfeeding?

If you drink any alcohol you have to pump and dump as it will affect baby. It's a pain to do and timing is key. Better off not to. If you do have a half glass of red wine once in a while though that is good for your blood.

Yes, you can drink a glass of wine. If you drink more than that in an hr, I would use the test strip for your milk to be safe.

When breastfeeding and drinking alcohol I was told "if you can find the baby, you can feed the baby"... anyone else?

I was told that too. But when I breastfed I pumped before drinking and waited at least 3-4 hours just to be safe.

Yes lol. By the time alcohol goes through the blood stream and gets to the milk it’s less than .2%. Unless you’re gettin sloshed in an hour it’s completely fine.

I’m not sure, but be careful about not pumping or breast feeding for that long because your supply will drop like crazy. Especially if you’re early postpartum.

I’m so upset! I don’t know who to talk to. I’m about 6 weeks pregnant. Everyone around me knows I hate the taste of alcohol. With that being said, I’m at a birthday party and they lied about a drink not having alcohol in it and I took a sip. Should I be worried?!!!!!!

Hey y’all so 2nights ago I had two bottles of wine. I started breastfeeding again today but my baby keeps spitting up really bad. Is it bc I still have alcohol system or is it because she is used to bottles and not used to my boob? I need help.

Unfortunately when breastfeeding you gotta plan to drink... pump and store for a few days and then drink.. but always pump and dump for 3 days after you drink depending how much you drink! I would say that's why ur baby is spitting up! Def alcohol still

So I’m sitting here and thinking about my last 2 pregnancy’s and labors and when I was having my first son I was pushing n throwing up at the same time and I remember the nurse opening up a rubbing alcohol pad and she told me to sniff the rubbing alcohol and my nausea was instantly gone…. Has anyone else tried this for nausea???

Right, that is a little odd. I mean they say you can have a little red wine but I wouldn’t even do that tbh no judgement to the ones that do but I just know it’s not for me

Does anyone have any knowledge about red wine and pregnancy? I know that ALCOHOL IS ALCOHOL so please don't tell me that 🤣. My friend's midwife told her that a glass of red wine is actually better for the baby. Anytime I'm offered wine even during my first pregnancy I can't get myself to accept and often times get offended lol 😆 is it safer than any other alcohol or is it just as harmful? Would you all have some or pass on it? Serious question ❤️

It's always been a controversial topic me personally I feel as though alcohol during pregnancy is a no go especially if one is prone to be a heavier drinker one glass can easily turn into two and three I'm perfectly fine laying off the alcohol for the sake of my baby

I herd any alcohol can cause fetal alcohol syndrome 🤷‍♀️ I just finished nursing school so idk everyone’s different I’m not judging So I definitely pass it to avoid risk.

I am 15 weeks pregnant. I accidentally ate a dessert with alcohol in it. I didn’t eat the whole thing but I’m still scared and worried.
