Be prepared to pack your hospital bag
Top Asked Questions
Why pack at 32 weeks?

Packing your hospital bag by 32 weeks ensures you're prepared in case of early labor. It helps reduce last-minute stress and ensures you have everything you need for a comfortable stay.

For the birthing person:

  • Identification, insurance information, and birth plan: Have these documents easily accessible.
  • Comfortable clothing: Pack a robe, slippers, socks, and a going-home outfit. Choose clothes that are easy to put on and take off.
  • Toiletries: Include items like toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, deodorant, lip balm, and any personal care items you prefer.
  • Snacks and drinks: Bring snacks you enjoy and a refillable water bottle. Hospital food might not always align with your cravings or meal times.
  • Entertainment: Consider books, magazines, or a tablet with movies and music to help relax and pass the time.
  • Chargers for electronics: Ensure you have chargers for all devices you're bringing.

For the support partner:

  • Change of clothes and personal items: If they're staying with you, they'll need their own supplies.
  • Snacks and water: Having their own supply means they won’t have to leave your side often.
  • Entertainment: Books, music, or anything to help them stay relaxed and alert.

For the baby:

  • Outfits: Pack a few different sizes since it's hard to predict the baby's size. Include going-home outfits.
  • Blankets: Bring a couple of soft, warm blankets for the ride home.
  • Car seat: Install the car seat beforehand and know how to properly use it.

Additional items:

  • Pillows: Hospital pillows may not be as comfortable, so bring your own with a distinguishable pillowcase.
  • Nursing essentials: If you plan to breastfeed, pack a nursing bra, breast pads, and nipple cream.
  • List of important contacts: Have phone numbers for family members and friends you'll want to announce the birth to.

What not to pack:

  • Valuables: Leave jewelry and large amounts of cash at home.
  • Unnecessary electronics: To minimize loss or damage, only bring what you'll actually use.

Tip:

Keep your bag in an easily accessible place, so you're ready to go when labor begins. Also, familiarize yourself with the route to the hospital and any pre-registration that might be required.

What should I pack for hospital bag from your past experiences? I feel so behind. C-section scheduled for Nov. 30th

I’m having another c-section, but this time I can actually be prepared and have a bag packed. So this is what I’ve packed in mine. It may differ for you as far as toiletries or if you need hair stuff etc. but definitely loose clothing for discharge. with my son I stayed in the hospital gown, but this time I want actual pajamas after I’m able to get up and move around. Slippers, robe, and I’d pack a good tumbler/insulated bottle because after my c/s I was so thirsty and wanted ice so badly so having a nice big cup to fill up is a must for me.

My son was so small, no one thought he would be as small as he was so this go around with his sister I’m packing premi clothes just in case, but make sure you take phone charger, pillow, blanket, a few diapers and wipes of different brands just Incase baby might be allergic to one.
