Birthing Classes

Top Asked Questions
What are birthing classes and why should I consider them?

Birthing classes are educational sessions focused on preparing expectant parents for childbirth and early parenthood. They cover topics like labor and delivery processes, pain relief options, breastfeeding, and newborn care. These classes can help reduce anxiety by familiarizing you with what to expect.

When should I start birthing classes?

It's generally recommended to start classes in the third trimester, around the 28th week of pregnancy, but enrolling earlier can give you more time to practice the techniques learned.

What types of birthing classes are available?

There are several types, including Lamaze, Bradley, and HypnoBirthing, among others. Each has its own focus, from natural childbirth techniques to medical interventions, so you can choose what aligns best with your birth plan.

How do I choose the right class for me?

Consider what you hope to gain from the class, your birth plan preferences, and whether the class schedule fits with your availability. Some may prefer classes offered by their healthcare provider for consistency in care and advice.

Are birthing classes only for first-time parents?

While especially beneficial for first-time parents, birthing classes can also be a valuable refresher for those who've already experienced childbirth. They can also provide updated information and techniques that may have changed since your last pregnancy.

Hey mamas i’m a first time mom, what are your thoughts on doing birthing classes through the hospital ? My insurance approved for me to take 1 class of my choice. If you’re a new mom, are you doing classes? If you’re a mom of multiple did you take any classes with your first?

I have a 9 month old. I took birth classes at my birth center. It was great, highly recommend. Taught everything from making a birth plan, what to pack, labor expectations, making last min decisions, birthing positions, labor coping mechanisms, labor options, etc.

So I just signed up for birthing classes free at my hospital. Between them being full and my work schedule, I couldn't get in before 36 weeks. 😳 Seems late. Anyone else's experience?

If it's your first baby you might be okay. My first came a little late. Would you mind sharing what you learn from the class...I always wondered what they teach and if people find it helpful.
