Anemia

Anemia
Anemia is when your body doesn't have enough iron to make the red blood cells it needs. You might feel tired, weak or dizzy a lot, and you may even get headaches, shortness of breath, and heart palpitations.

Is it normal?
Rest assured, it is a common condition during pregnancy, but it's important to take steps to manage it so that you and your baby remain healthy.

Your healthcare provider will monitor your condition and recommend changes to your diet or prescribe iron supplements to boost your iron levels.
Prevent and care
With proper care and attention, anemia should not cause any significant harm to you or your growing baby. Remember that taking care of yourself during this special time is crucial, and it's great that you're reaching out for support!
  • Incorporate vitamin C-rich foods in your diet to enhance iron absorption.
  • Avoid consuming tea or coffee with meals, as they can inhibit iron absorption.
  • Get regular prenatal check-ups to monitor hemoglobin levels.
For instance, simply adding a vitamin C source like orange juice to your iron-rich meal can boost absorption. Regularly monitoring iron levels during prenatal visits is also key.

When to consult?
It is important to consult with your healthcare provider as soon as you suspect anemia, for the best possible diagnosis, care and treatment.

Remember, your wellbeing and that of your baby are our topmost priority, and we are always here to help and support you.

Are there any other moms with anemia? I started beet root and iron capsules last night. The migraine was awful, so I went to bed.

Anyone familiar with iron infusion IVs? I'm 33 weeks along, and after struggling with symptoms of anemia (tiredness, dizziness at random times), my second set of labs determined my iron levels are depleted, and supplements didn't help. Thankfully, baby girl is still doing well (5lbs3oz), I've just never had issues with anemia before now.

Any other mommas dealing with iron-deficiency anemia? I just got diagnosed today after my 26 week bloodwork and I’m hopeful the iron supplements will help, but also worried about my lil babe 😕

Ohh it’ll be okay. They’ll just give you these pills you’ll have to take everyday. It’s definitely hard to remember taking them, but you’ll eventually remember lol.
