Breastfeeding: beware of mastitis

Sore breasts, redness, sensitivity... breastfeeding is not always a smooth ride and you have to be careful about complications.

  • Among the main risks: mastitis.
  • It is the consequence of untreated engorgement.
  • It causes a high fever and must be treated quickly.
  • The best remedy?
  • Breastfeeding as frequently as possible.
  • Don't hesitate to breastfeed your baby as often as possible, even if you have to double or triple the number of daily feedings.
  • The main thing is to drain the breast as much as possible.
  • If after 48 hours you are still not better, your doctor can prescribe a suitable treatment.

Question for all mother's breast feeding or not. I am not breast feeding but I'm so engorged and I'm pretty sure I have mastitis, I have to use a haakaa to get it to come down I feel like I've tried anything and everything help!

I tried hot shower and it eases the pain but as soon as I’m done like not even 30 minutes later they feel full and hard again and it hurts so much I don’t know what to do I’m tired sleep deprived and In tears

Hi Moms!!! How’s everyone doing with breastfeeding? I’m EBF but I have so much nipple pain, I know all lactation consultants say it shouldn’t hurt but it does!! I can only find online stuff for mastitis and clogged ducts but not for nipple pain, what do y’all recommend?

How did y’all ween your baby from breast milk to formula? I only have 10oz saved in the freezer (2 bags) and am 99.9% sure i have developed mastitis now. And am in a lot of pain. My dr appointment isn’t till Monday but if my fever keeps rising I’ll be headed to the hospital. (100.8 right now)

Having some serious mom guilt right now… I have tried so hard pumping. I have seen a lactation consultant & it is still so seriously painful for me 😞 even after ordering different parts. I’ve had mastitis twice in 3 weeks. I pump only enough to feed her and she has lip tie so breastfeeding isnt always successful for us. I am so constantly drained and in pain from pumping 😭 I know fed is best and I don’t formula shame by any means, but the few times I’ve supplemented formula it messes with her stomach. I just want to successfully breastfeed SO BAD but I have just been feeling so mentally defeated 😞 any advice or experiences would be very appreciated

Idk why this scares me but getting a clogged duct or mastitis is making me afraid of breastfeeding

Genuine question with any mom who's had mastitis, did your milk supply lower on the infected breast? I've noticed my milk supply on the affected breast has significantly lowered while the other breast is producing normally
