Engorgement: watch your breasts

Breastfeeding is magic! It's complicity, happiness, exchange... all that, all that. But it can also be complicated if you are not careful.

  • The main threat?
  • Engorgement!
  • It's when your breasts produce too much milk, when feedings are suddenly more spaced out, or when you've been separated from your baby for too long.
  • How do you prevent it?
  • By simply letting the milk flow!
  • Breastfeed your baby frequently, from birth.
  • If your baby doesn't drink, use a breast pump or massage your breasts as soon as they are a little tense.
  • And above all, if you have any doubts, don't hesitate to consult a health professional.

Any breastfeeding moms have trouble with engorgement? Baby can't latch because I'm so swollen 😕

I used to have to pump first and then latch. And then I gave up on latching cuz she had too shallow of a latch so I just pumped to bottle feed. Try a manual pump or a haakaa to get the ‘edge’ off and then latch baby

Hand express or Haaka. Save that milk, I know it’s annoying but having more milk is better than not enough 💕

Take a hot shower!! If you still want to continue this will do the trick. If you want to dry them up completely cabbage leafs works wonders! ❤️

I had a friend give me her extra breast milk she pumped and the nicu gave my daughter donor breast milk. I formula fed and breastfed/ pumped until my engorgement went down a little. I was making like 10-20 mls the first week or two and then I was making 250 mls the next week. I recommend elactia breastfeeding probiotic or any other breastfeeding probiotic. :)

How do I stop engorgement. Due to the complications, I had after my C-section. I'm choosing not to breastfeed. However, this engorgement is just bringing me down. I feel horrible. What should I do.

Pump the let down from the other side while you're nursing so your titties fill back up at the same time. Otherwise you'll notice one breast producing more milk than the other. ❤️

Do any mommas have tips for dealing with breast engorgement? I’ve tried warm showers and massaging, pumping, feeding, the Haaka but still so engorged.

All of those things can actually make it worse. Your body doesn't know the difference between nursing, pumping, and leaking. It just knows this is how much milk you've "used" so that's how much it's going to try and replace. If you end up pumping or leaking more than baby is actually eating then you could end up making more than baby needs. I know getting the milk out provides some temporary relief but just keep in mind that whatever you get out is going to fill back up. Try ice packs to dull the pain and if you do pump, try to only pump what's needed for you to be comfortable and don't drain them completely
