When a lump appears in the breast while breastfeeding

One or more small lumps have appeared on your breasts since you started breastfeeding your baby. When should you start to worry?

  • When a mother breastfeeds her child, the mammary glands can produce what are called nodules.
  • These small, hard, usually painless lumps are usually gone within a few days, so there's no need to worry about them if they do.
  • However, if you notice that they persist over time, don't hesitate to make an appointment with your doctor. Prevention is better than cure and it will put your mind at rest.

So I woke up with a lump on the side of my left breast. It hurts to the touch. I’m still breastfeeding. There’s no redness. But it hurts while I’m breastfeeding. What is it? I can’t tell if it’s either just a blocked milk duct or mastitis. Is it normal to feel tired, like I’m usually fine but I feel like I could pass out.
