The risks and consequences of gestational diabetes

Has a blood test detected gestational diabetes? A balanced diet is necessary to avoid the risks and consequences of childbirth!

Typical in pregnancy, gestational diabetes should not be taken lightly, as there are risks for you and your baby:

  • A more difficult delivery because of the baby's weight being over 4kg.
  • Nerve or heart defects in your baby.
  • Low blood sugar when your baby is born.

Ask your doctor or midwife for advice on how to monitor your blood sugar and help you follow a balanced diet.

Hello y’all , 😩 so I had my baby on March 31st 2023 with that pregnancy I had gestational diabetes! I recently found out I’m pregnant again 😮‍💨 what are the chances I’ll have gestational diabetes with this new pregnancy? I’m currently 5 weeks pregnant

It varies, no matter what pregnancy there is a chance but it cant be decided until 27-29 weeks along. I haven't had gestational diabetes, but I controlled my eating and ate a lower carb diet and was still able to satisfy my cravings.

I have the diabetes and they say mine was before I got pregnant. I have been on insulin since my first trimester. They say insulin is safer and better for mom and baby then diabetic pills. That is what one of my doctors told me anyways. But if you can control yours by diet. That is the way that I would go. You really just have to watch eating sweets, carbs, and anything with a lot of sugar in it. This is my 5th go around with diabetes in my pregnancy. My A1C in the beginning of my pregnancy was a 9.3 and my A1C is now down to a 5.0. I got it down in 4.3 points in 5 months

When I had it with my second child ( currently pregnant with 4th ) … I basically drank lots of water , eliminated the soda completely. And drank juice once a day. Cut back on fried food / greasy food. And limit my snacks . So once every 2 weeks I would have a snack .

I had it with my last pregnancy. Had to watch what I ate. I ended up on metformin and when that didn’t work I got insulin

Anyone with gestational diabetes drink the raspberry leaf tea? I just read that you can’t drink it when you have gestational diabetes cause it can cause distress to your baby. Thoughts? Share your experiences. I’m 37 weeks with GD.

The tea is fine, just don't sweeten it. That's what can cause the issue. Diabetes has to do with the sugar. No honey, no sugar. Drink it plain.

Any other moms 30wks and have gestational diabetes?? This is my 4th baby, but the first time I've ever had Gestational diabetes. Does anyone have any tips to help me either reverse it, or manage it so my princess doesn't have to stay in the nicu??

Ok so I've basically been doing things the right way since I found out lol thank you for helping me better understand. I've literally cut out all sugar, I don't even drink coffee now, everything I eat is either air fried or veggies, and I've been OD'ing on my water intake more than I already was. The part I'm confused on is how do I have it, but my sugar is literally nowhere near what they consider being gestational diabetes 🤦🏽‍♀️
