Weight during Pregnancy

Weight during Pregnancy: Nurturing Your Body and Baby
It's important to remember that weight gain during pregnancy is natural and necessary for the health and development of your baby.
Let's dive into some essential information and helpful tips to navigate this exciting phase of your life!
Embracing Healthy Weight Gain
Gaining weight during pregnancy is a positive sign that your body is nourishing your growing baby. Here are a few key points to keep in mind:
  • Weight gain recommendations vary depending on your pre-pregnancy weight and health. Your healthcare provider will guide you based on individual factors.
  • On average, women with a healthy weight before pregnancy are advised to gain between 25 and 35 pounds throughout the entire pregnancy.
  • Gradual weight gain is ideal, with most women gaining around 1-2 pounds per week in the second and third trimesters.
  • Remember that every woman's body is unique, so try not to compare your weight gain with others. Focus on what's best for you and your baby.
Making Nourishing Choices
During pregnancy, it's important to prioritize nutrient-dense foods that provide essential vitamins and minerals for both you and your baby. Consider the following tips:
  • Eat a balanced diet consisting of whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats.
  • Choose nutrient-rich snacks like yogurt, nuts, and fruits to keep you satisfied between meals.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Limit your intake of processed and sugary foods that offer little nutritional value.
Staying Active for a Healthy Pregnancy
Regular physical activity is beneficial for both your physical and mental well-being during pregnancy. Here's how you can stay active in a safe and enjoyable way:
  • Engage in low-impact exercises such as walking, swimming, or prenatal yoga, which can help strengthen your body and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Listen to your body and avoid overexertion. If you experience any discomfort or have concerns, consult your healthcare provider.
  • Include pelvic floor exercises to support your pelvic muscles, which can help prevent common issues like urinary incontinence.
Focusing on Emotional Well-being
Pregnancy is a time of significant physical and emotional changes. Prioritizing your mental well-being is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Consider these self-care strategies:
  • Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or prenatal yoga to reduce stress and promote calmness.
  • Connect with your support network, whether it's your partner, family, or friends. Share your feelings and concerns openly and seek their understanding and support.
  • Take breaks when you need them. Napping, reading, or engaging in hobbies can help you recharge and maintain a positive mindset.
  • Don't hesitate to seek professional help if you're feeling overwhelmed or struggling with anxiety or depression. Your mental well-being is crucial, and there are resources available to support you.

I lost 10 pounds at the beginning (no morning sickness) and then gained 4lbs back. I did not gain any weight last month. I can feel my stomach getting bigger tho so not sure what's up. I go in Monday for an ultrasound. I'm overweight so I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing for me. Plus I think I read the more heavy you start out the less they realistically want you to gain anyways.

I weighed 105 at 5’5 before pregnancy so I was considered an unhealthy underweight. I’ve gained about 28 pounds now and I’m about 23 weeks, I think after 6 months to a year postpartum your body will go back to your normal weight. I am loving having an ass and boobs now 🤣 I’ve never had much of them before.

Anybody struggle with the thought of gaining weight during pregnancy? I know it’s normal but I lost some weight before getting pregnant and every time I step on the scale now and see I gained a pound or two I cringe 🫠
