Maternity leave notification letter: mandatory?

You are pregnant and you are wondering if you have to send a letter to your employer to inform him/her of your maternity leave?

  • First of all, you should know that you are not obliged to obtain his agreement to benefit from your leave.
  • It is a right that you can automatically claim, as long as you are in good standing with regard to the declaration of pregnancy.
  • However, you are obliged to inform your employer of the start date of your maternity leave, at least one day before the planned departure date.
  • To do this, you must send a registered letter clearly stating the start and end dates of your maternity leave.
