Breastfeeding: overcome sore nipples and low milk supply

Breastfeeding: Overcome Sore Nipples and Low Milk Supply 🤱🍼💪
Breastfeeding is a beautiful and bonding experience between you and your baby. However, it's common to encounter challenges such as sore nipples and low milk supply along the way.
Managing Sore Nipples 🤔🤱
Sore nipples are a common concern during the early days of breastfeeding. The following tips can help alleviate discomfort and promote healing:
  • Proper latch: Ensure that your baby is latched onto your breast correctly. A deep latch can minimize nipple soreness.
  • Nipple care: After each feeding, apply a few drops of breast milk to your nipples and let them air dry. This natural remedy can help soothe and heal any cracks or irritation.
  • Nursing pads: Consider using soft, absorbent nursing pads to protect your nipples and prevent friction from clothing.
Remember, sore nipples are often temporary and tend to improve as you and your baby become more accustomed to breastfeeding. Don't hesitate to seek support from a lactation consultant or breastfeeding support group if you need additional guidance. 🤔🤱
Boosting Milk Supply 💪🍼
If you're concerned about your milk supply, remember that it's important to establish a healthy breastfeeding routine and address any underlying issues. Here are some tips to help boost your milk supply:
  • Frequent nursing: Breastfeed your baby on demand, ensuring that they have access to the breast frequently. The more your baby nurses, the more signals your body receives to produce milk.
  • Proper nutrition: Maintain a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and eating nutritious foods. Adequate calorie intake and hydration support milk production.
  • Breast compression: During nursing sessions, gently compress your breast to encourage milk flow and stimulate milk production.
  • Pumping: If needed, consider adding pumping sessions between feedings to stimulate milk supply and build up a freezer stash.
Remember that every breastfeeding journey is unique, and milk supply can vary among mothers.

I heard that feeding your baby by latch is the best and will stimulate it. And after you’re done feeding baby they say to keep pumping right after and you’ll start making more production. You have to eat lots of milk products also. Like cheese, cottage cheese, milk, and all those things. Also like having oat meal and all that as well and I know there’s a vitamin that can help too. These are just things I’ve read and some have been told to me from other moms. I’m having my first baby soon and I’m planning on breastfeeding him as well with some formula that’s close to breast milk just in case :).

So this Breastfeeding thing has been kicking my butt 😒 but I'm determined to continue. I have an oversupply of milk which is great but the tender, raw sore nipples are frustrating. Along with getting engorged.

Use Lanolin cream after each feed and pump session. I know it might make it worse but to help with your oversupply pump for like 5 minutes before feeding babe. Also, make sure babe has a good latch also that could be contributing to raw sore nipples as well. Also, if you want you could get a hakka that might help with the engorgement. Also, I would suggest maybe seeing a lactation consultant because they can help with the oversupply problem along with your raw sore nipples.

I’m about ready to give up on breastfeeding 😩 my nipples are so sore my baby is 11 days old and when I pump I get maybe 3 drops so what exactly is my baby getting if I can’t get anything out when I pump? Nurses say he’s getting enough and it takes time for milk supply to come In, my boobs leak but when I pump I get maybe 3 drops 🤦🏽‍♀️

Breastfeeding is mostly supply and demand. The more you nurse him the more milk your breasts will be stimulated to make. Try not to supplement if you don't have to because supplementing lowers supply as well.

You can apply nipple cream and try to alternate if that helps. Also for a newborn Their stomach is as big as a cherry.
