Are There Foods I Should Now Avoid?

Are There Foods I Should Now Avoid?
Pregnancy necessitates dietary adjustments for the safety and health of both the mother and the developing baby.
Understanding which foods to avoid is crucial for preventing potential health risks.
Foods to Avoid During Pregnancy
Certain foods can pose risks due to bacteria, parasites, or harmful chemicals.
  • Raw or Undercooked Meats and Eggs: These can contain harmful bacteria like Salmonella.
  • Unpasteurized Dairy and Juices: These may harbor Listeria, a bacterium dangerous during pregnancy.
  • Certain Seafood: High-mercury fish (like swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish) should be avoided due to potential mercury exposure.
  • Processed Meats: Unless reheated to steaming hot, these can be a Listeria risk.
  • Raw Sprouts: They can harbor harmful bacteria and should be avoided.
High-Mercury Fish
Understanding which fish contain high levels of mercury is important as it can affect the baby's developing nervous system.
  • Limit Tuna: Eat tuna sparingly, and prefer low-mercury options like canned light tuna.
  • Avoid Shark, Swordfish, and King Mackerel: These are typically high in mercury.
Alcohol and Caffeine
Alcohol and caffeine intake should be carefully considered during pregnancy.
  • No Alcohol: Alcohol should be completely avoided as it can lead to fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.
  • Limit Caffeine: Limit caffeine to 200 mg per day – about one 12-ounce cup of coffee.
Unwashed Produce
Unwashed fruits and vegetables may carry harmful bacteria and should be thoroughly cleaned.
  • Thorough Washing: Ensure all produce is washed to remove potential pesticides and bacteria.
Soft Cheeses and Deli Meats
Soft cheeses and deli meats can carry Listeria, which is particularly harmful during pregnancy.
  • Avoid Soft Cheeses: Unless labeled as made with pasteurized milk.
  • Reheat Deli Meats: If consuming, they should be reheated until steaming hot.
Homemade and Store-Bought Foods
Some homemade and store-bought items require caution.
  • Store-Bought Salads: Avoid unless you're sure they're freshly made and properly refrigerated.
  • Homemade Desserts with Raw Eggs: Such as some custards and mousses, should be avoided.
While pregnancy is a time of numerous dietary changes, understanding and avoiding certain foods can significantly reduce health risks for both the mother and the developing baby.
Always consult with a healthcare provider for personalized dietary advice during pregnancy.

If you live near a Publix they have vegetarian sushi options but I was told you can have certain seafood in moderation.

I take my glucose in the afternoon, I should probably avoid my cup of coffee , they suggested eggs & bacon for protein…

Are there any foods that you absolutely hated before you got pregnant and love now or loved before and hate now? For me i love onions now and I used to love sweet stuff but I can't stomach the thought anymore lol it's so strange! I'm curious to see how my appetite is gonna change again once she's born..

Some moms are going wild in my messages. I made a list of foods I was told to avoid vs foods that make me vomit. None of which I said you can’t have during pregnancy. It was just about me and what I’ve experienced. Yes, a few days ago I did eat a pineapple and I throw that up too. It caused me a lot of pain true enough. I wanted it. I ate it. I knew it wasn’t a good choice but I also knew I wasn’t going to die. Certain foods cause me discomfort but they aren’t harmful to my son. I was just sharing my experiences and what my doctor recommended for me to stay away from due to my digestive disorder and diabetes and foods I literally still can’t tolerate at 5 months. That’s it. Carry on 🤞🏽🥰

Oh I don’t. It’s just funny. Got to remember this is a platform that’s disposable to people of all walks of life .. Everyone has an opinion .. It’s rare I get a negative comment but it’s so much love on support on this app the negative comments get dismissed .. Pregnancy is different for everyone .. No one is “right!” It’s all love 💕

I'm not sure they mentioned something about it being undercooked and parasites.
