Beliefs related to postpartum depression

Postpartum depression is still often misunderstood and carries misconceptions. Here are some myths.

  • "You can't be affected by postpartum depression," which is not true, as all women who have just given birth can be affected.
  • "I feel this way because I don't love my baby," which is also false because the love is there but it's suppressed by other feelings.
  • "Postpartum depression is like baby blues," which is false because baby blues occur right after delivery, whereas postpartum depression begins the second week after the birth of your baby.
