Inducing labor : membrane sweeping

You've heard about induction and, among the different techniques, you wonder what membrane sweeping is?

  • It is a very simple manual procedure that allows you to induce contractions without the use of pharmaceutical solutions.
  • The gynecologist mechanically detaches the inner surface of the cervix with a finger, without breaking the water bag.
  • In most cases, this simple and painless procedure causes contractions to start within 48 hours.
  • The main benefit is that no hormones are required. Membrane sweeping is a gentler, more natural technique.

I'm actually 38, weeks and due anytime. Just had an appointment today and they did a membrane sweep. I'm 3+ dilated 80% effaced and baby is -2 position. This is my second pregnancy but my first is almost two years and Im kinda nervous and never had a membrane sweep before, how long does it take? they said that tonight could be the night but I'm anxious and nervous.

Could possibly be getting a membrane sweep tomorrow if there is any dilation going on. I haven't had any cervical checks yet and will be 38 weeks Saturday. Anyone have any success with a membrane sweep getting you to labor?

Welp been 48 hours since my membrane sweep contractions have stopped so I’m guessing it was a failed membrane sweep. And 15 hours since my bloody show. SMH I’m over it ‘

Quick question. Will they do a membrane sweep at 38 weeks? My dr won’t induce unless You are 39 weeks. But idk how they look at membrane sweeps, if they see that as inducing or not.

Has anyone got that membrane sweep done and how fast did you go into labor? Had an appointment today I’m 39 weeks 3cm dilated and they did the membrane sweep so just curious.

Anybody on here get a membrane sweep before? I never had it with my daughter but I was wondering how well they work like how long after you got it did you go into labor. Also wanted to know how it felt…. My doctor said she’s gonna give me one at 38 weeks. 💙

Has anyone on here asked for a membrane sweep around 37 1/2 weeks? Was your doctor willing to do it? I’m debating asking, I’m so miserable and beyond tired of the prodromal labor.
