How to Quit Smoking

How do you quit smoking when you’re pregnant?
Smoking during pregnancy can have serious health risks for both you and your baby. Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do to ensure a healthy pregnancy.
While it may not be easy, with the right support and strategies, you can successfully kick the habit. Here are some tips to help you quit smoking during pregnancy:
Set a Quit Date and Make a Plan
  • Choose a specific date to quit smoking and mark it on your calendar. This will give you a clear target to work towards.
  • Make a plan to manage cravings and triggers, and outline the strategies you'll use to stay smoke-free.
Seek Support
  • Don't go through this journey alone. Reach out to your healthcare provider, a support group, or a quitline for guidance and encouragement.
  • Surround yourself with people who understand and support your decision to quit smoking.
Identify Your Triggers and Find Alternatives
  • Identify the situations or emotions that trigger your urge to smoke, such as stress or boredom.
  • Find healthier alternatives to cope with these triggers, such as deep breathing exercises, going for a walk, or engaging in a relaxing activity.
Replace Smoking with Healthy Habits
  • Find healthy habits to replace smoking. Engage in regular physical activity, which not only distracts you from cravings but also promotes overall well-being.
  • Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and snack on nutritious foods like fruits and vegetables to curb cravings.
Use Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)
  • Talk to your healthcare provider about using nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to help manage cravings.
  • NRT can include nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, or inhalers. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the right approach for you.
Stay Positive and Reward Yourself
  • Quitting smoking is a significant accomplishment, so celebrate your progress along the way.
  • Set small milestones and reward yourself when you reach them.
  • Treat yourself to a massage, indulge in a favorite activity, or buy something you've been wanting.
Create a Smoke-Free Environment
  • Make your home and car smoke-free zones.
  • Remove any ashtrays or smoking-related items from your surroundings.
  • Avoid places where people smoke to minimize temptation and exposure to secondhand smoke.
Educate Yourself on the Benefits
  • Learn about the numerous benefits of quitting smoking for both you and your baby.
  • Quitting smoking reduces the risk of complications during pregnancy, such as premature birth, low birth weight, and respiratory problems.
  • It also improves your own health and sets a positive example for your child.
Stay Persistent and Seek Help if Needed
  • Quitting smoking is a process, and you may face challenges along the way.
  • Stay persistent and remember why you made the decision to quit.
  • If you need additional support or find it difficult to quit on your own, consider talking to your healthcare provider about other strategies or resources available.

Hey try to reach out to your OB Gyn about this, this is a serious thing you’re dealing with, no judgment, but I work closely with babies and special needs children, I’ve seen first hand what can happen long term to babies exposed to continued long term smoking and or drug use, Please seek help 💕 to have a child with severe medical complications or special needs is NOT FOR THE WEAK, most times these same kids end up in therapeutic foster homes 🏡 because the mom/parents can’t handle it.

Any mommas give me tips to help quit smoking? My son is 12 so it's been awhile since I've been pregnant thankfully I was able to quit cold turkey with him but with this one I'm struggling so bad. At my first prenatal appointment I forgot to ask the doctor if there is something that would help. I'm 8 weeks pregnant today and don't wanna harm my little one but it really is such a mental war on trying to quit 😪

This is embarrassing so please don’t judge. I NEED HELP! I can’t quit smoking. Like chain smoking. I work in a casino and EVERYONE smokes. I’ve tried cutting back but nothing seems to work. Any type of lozenge or gum or patch doesn’t work. I feel horrible because I know I shouldn’t! I don’t know what else to do! I can’t quit my job I need it right now!

It’s an addiction so with that in mind, you need to get help. We can’t help you here. Find the strength for your child to stop. Think about the fact they can be born addicted to nicotine, having lung issues, heart defects, low birth weight, brain damage or under development, kidney issues, vision and hearing issues, and guaranteed to be at a higher risk for certain cancers… literally affects every part of your child’s development. Not to mention some states can take your child at birth if they test positive for certain substances. Patches and gum are also a bad idea because they dose you with nicotine. Even if they were working, they’re only stopping you from smoking, not eliminating your nicotine intake. I know it’s easier said than done but all you can do is stop.

So important question no judgement... Especially for cannamoms, I went to my appointment the other day and her belly circle was measuring 2 weeks behind, doc told me to quit smoking weed and eat more but smoking is the only way I can eat and now I feel like A bad mom for not knowing what to do.

According to the studies, babies born to women who had cannabis in their system during pregnancy were more likely to have their birth weight for age at or below the 10th percentile, also known as small for gestational age. I smoked daily for pain and quit as soon as I learned I was preggers. I feel bad for moms who need it for nausea or to eat. Maybe he can give you something else? You're almost there!

I mean to be so real the “but that’s the only way I can eat” shit is out the door at this point if you smoking weed is effecting that innocent ass baby..you can ask your doctor to prescribe you something that will help you gain an appetite or something of that nature or force yourself to have small portions of something but to continue to smoke knowing it’s affecting your baby regardless of how quitting makes you feel personally is very selfish in my opinion on top of that you reaching the end of your pregnancy from what the app says you don’t want cps involved because the baby has weed in his/her system because you don’t want to or feel like you can’t stop..I used to smoke all day everyday trust me I get it but if it came to my daughters needs and my needs ima do what’s best for my child no matter how it makes me feel especially if it’s affecting my child that’s what comes with being a mother

I took my pregnancy test one time and I didn't pick up another cigarette. I quit cold turkey! I was very shocked! I smoked for a long time! I don't drink occasionally anymore. I quit cold turkey wasn't too shocked but disappointed. Now my weed smoking 👀 that's a different story; because I smoked a lot! I quit smoking half way🤷🏾‍♀️ I'm trying to get it to where I do not smoke at all, but this the hard one for me!! Plus I have anxiety 🤦🏾‍♀️ What y'all think? Who smokes? ❓❔

Hard candy, cough drops, jolly rancher. Constantly have something in your mouth ^ That sounded dirty but trust me it works. Think your doing this for your baby. Any time you smoke or vape your inhaling bad toxic chemicals. Your baby depends on you momma. Think Your baby's lungs are inhaling the smoke. (This is not a mean rude comment) Get a tracker on your phone count how many hours you haven't smoked. Have a support system that will talk you through your cravings. Write in a book reason's why u want to quit. Make them really good reasons so when the strong urge comes you don't want it. Throw away any product that your smoking. Ashtrays lighters etc. Deep clean the house after ward. In a few days once u stopped you will start smelling the bad scent. It will make u nausea. Take a walk do a cross word play a game do a word search. Do activities to keep your mind occupied. Take up new habits learn something new crochet, knit stuff for the baby. Get your babies space stuff start organizing little by little. Think of your precious baby. Do you want him or her around the smell or smoke? Do you want your baby to grow up and touch your vape or cigarettes. Do you want to have ti go outside to smoke then miss time with your child. This is all what helped me. With the kids I would go outside then come in change my clothes wash my hands brush my teeth lotion and spray myself. I was wasting 30+ mins not just 10. Think that one of these times u take a puff you could be putting your child at risk. Think about when they are here they grab for it. Think when they are here your baby rolls for the first time or speaks his or her first word or first steps and u miss it because u were outside smoking

Set two or three very short periods of time you get to smoke every day. Like a five minute window. If you miss the time because you were distracted then you don’t get to smoke till the next period of time. You can start to shorten the time periods every few days till eventually you dont smoke
