Dizziness

Dizziness

This is a feeling of lightheadedness or unsteadiness which can lead to the spins.

Is it normal?
Yes, dizziness during pregnancy is a totally normal thing to experience!

Don't worry, it's just your body going through some changes as it works hard to create the perfect environment for your growing baby.

As your pregnancy progresses, your body produces more blood to support the needs of both you and your little one.

This increase in blood flow can sometimes lead to a drop in blood pressure, which can cause dizziness.

But don't worry, it's usually nothing to be concerned about and can easily be managed by taking it slow and easy, especially when getting up from a seated or lying down position.
Prevent and care
Proper management of dizziness is important to avoid falls and other potential complications.
  • Avoid standing up quickly, especially from a lying or sitting position.
  • Stay well-hydrated and maintain balanced blood sugar levels by eating small, frequent meals.
  • If you experience dizziness, sit or lie down to prevent falls.
Dizziness can be quite common during pregnancy, affecting about 75% of expectant mothers at some point.

When to consult?
If you are feeling extra dizzy, or if it's accompanied by other symptoms like:
  • fainting
  • severe headache
  • persistent nausea or vomiting
or if it's affecting your daily activities it might be a good idea to give your doctor a call.

Remember, your doctor is your best resource and is always there to support and guide you.

They can give you some tips and tricks to help you manage any dizziness you may be experiencing, and can also make sure that everything is on track with both you and your little one.
Top Asked Questions
Why do pregnant women experience dizziness?

Hormonal changes, increased blood volume, and changes in blood pressure can contribute to dizziness.

When is dizziness most likely to occur during pregnancy?

Dizziness can happen at any time but is more common during the first trimester and when rising quickly from a seated or lying position.

Is dizziness a sign of a problem during pregnancy?

It's usually not a cause for concern, but persistent or severe dizziness should be discussed with a healthcare provider.

I’m having some wicked dizziness and have been out of work for the past 3 days. I’ve taken nausea medicine and Dramamine for dizziness and nothing seems to be helping? Any suggestions on how to get rid of vertigo? I feel like I’m dying.

Make sure you are drinking enough water to help with the increased blood flow ❤️ Also, does your prenatal have iron? Or did OB check cbc yet for hgb or iron level? Can be normal, but also mild anemia can make that worse. Hope you feel better soon, Mama!

I did all the time during my late 1st trimester and early 2nd trimester. It get really bad to where when I was working I’d have to find a safe space and lay down on the floor. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water (if you don’t like water, drink body armor. Tons of vitamins and hydration.), staying cool, taking vitamins. It could be low blood pressure. (That’s what mine was.) If it is, eat something salty and sit down until the feeling passes.
