Can passionate sex cause a miscarriage?

Can Sex Cause a Miscarriage?
Camille Bataillon
Sexologist
It's a concern that often arises among couples, both men and women: the impact of sexual activity on the risk of miscarriage.
This article aims to provide clear and scientifically informed guidance.
What You Should Know
It's crucial to understand that in most cases, having sex or experiencing an orgasm during pregnancy does not lead to miscarriage.
Miscarriage is a natural and common process, and while it can be emotionally painful, it's important to know that it's usually not caused by anything you did or didn't do.
The primary cause of miscarriages is chromosomal abnormalities, which are physical issues with the embryo that cannot be influenced by sexual activity or orgasms.
Safety Guideline
Chromosomal Abnormalities: Most miscarriages are attributed to chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo, making them unrelated to sexual activity or orgasms.
Uterine Contractions: As pregnancy progresses and the uterus grows, uterine contractions may occur during orgasms. These contractions are normal and not dangerous in a typical pregnancy.
Protection for the Baby: Your unborn child is well-protected during sexual activities. The baby is surrounded by a fluid-filled amniotic sac and safeguarded against infection by a thick mucus plug sealing the cervix.
Simple Tips and Tricks
To Inform Themselves: Many men are afraid of harming the baby during sex. If only there was a better understanding of anatomy, many people would be reassured.
Think Beyond Penetration: If you are still not reassured, you can enjoy very pleasurable intimacy without penetration.
Benefits of Sex During Pregnancy: Sexual activity during pregnancy is generally safe and can offer benefits such as stress relief, increased blood flow, and potential preparation for delivery.
Increased Pleasure: Some individuals may find that they enjoy sexual activity even more during pregnancy due to hormonal changes, increased blood flow, and bodily transformations.
If you have any concerns or questions regarding sexual activity during pregnancy or your specific risks, don't hesitate to reach out to your OB-GYN or healthcare provider.

Once the bleeding has stopped you should be completely healed. I’m so sorry you had this happened to you.

It’s okay I’m dealing with it. And I’m basically only spotting when I pee. I barely have any in my pad

Just consciously slow down until you eventually quit. Don't panic, just take it a day at a time. I am still vaping at 10 weeks. I vaped into my 5th mo th with my 2nd child. Quit, but do it at a pace you can handle. ❤️

I’ve been having a lot of UTIs lately ever since I got pregnant, I’m 8 weeks and 3 days and I’m scared it’ll cause a miscarriage. Any advice on why this is happening? -I have taken a break from sex for a while (sickness/nausea) -I shower every day -I go bathroom when I need to

UTIs during pregnancy are common and as long you receive treatment it should be ok. I was on the same boat during the beginning of pregnancy

Has anyone experienced light pink bleeding after sex? I'm 9 weeks pregnant and I was told sex is ok and will not cause a miscarriage but the bleeding still made me nervous. So far the bleeding was only once when I went to the bathroom immediately after ingercourse.
