What is a low-lying placenta? What does it imply?

The placenta is a nourishing and protective organ, but it can sometimes be a source of concern, for example when it is low-lying.

  • A low-lying placenta, or placenta previa, is when it is placed too close to the cervix.
  • It can be detected by ultrasound as early as the 4th month of pregnancy.
  • A close follow-up is set up and rest is recommended.
  • During the 3rd trimester, the low-lying placenta can cause bleeding during contractions.
  • If the placenta is too close to the cervix, or even completely covers it, the delivery will take place by C-section.

Hello all, Anyone dealing with a low lying placenta? I saw a specialist and they said my placenta is 2cm away from the uterus😒 It sure has been a tough few weeks, but seems to be getting better. Just curious if anyone dealt with this and any advice how to deal with the stress of it 😏#Stressedmama

I had placenta previa where the placenta was covering the cervix. But now it’s grown out of the way but it’s still really close which this is called a marginal previa. The more the uterus grows, the more the placenta will move out of the way!

The doctor told me today that I have a low lying placenta. I looked it up and that can be very dangerous to me and baby. Has anyone else had this before? This is a 4th pregnancy and I've never heard of it.

thank you for responding. I shouldn't have googled it at all. I know it's just informing me but it was saying I could bleed to death and loose my baby or I could be in danger. I just hope it moves up. 😥

Found out my placenta is low-lying. It's only 1.69 cm away from my cervix, I'm so anxious. Found this info out through my health portal app. Dr. Didn't bother to call or tell me if I should be on bed or pelvic rest.

Call them and demand to make an appointment. My cervix is shorter then it needs to be and unless I mentioned it they weren’t going to do anything. I’m now on vaginal progesterone until 36 weeks. Sometimes you have to push with these dumb doctors to get the quality of care you deserve.

definitely will be I just happened to check my health portal and it was already too late to call tonight. They had to of just stuck the results on there because I went in 2 days ago for a transvaginal to check my cervix.

At my second ultrasound the Dr noticed my placenta to be low lying. Any one else heard of this before? I was 15 weeks when the Dr noticed. Also he says no sex for a month and let's see if placenta moves.

Has anyone had or heard of low lying placenta? Had my 20wk scan today, baby is healthy but they are alittle concerned about my placenta being a bit low... If anyone has had it what was your experience like?

I personally was just told pelvic rest until my next scan to see if it had resolved itself. And it had by time I had another ultrasound. There is the chance to move and then sometimes it stays. But you’re so early there’s a high chance it’ll resolve itself

they said mine is lying low which cause me to have a c section if it doesn't move away from the cervix by the time I hit 32 weeks, it scares me because I am 4'9 and always had iron issues and I can easily black out because of how much blood I will lose. The placenta placement isn't very safe my mom is scared for me...
