How does a delivery under general anesthesia work?

Unlike the epidural, which only puts your pelvis to sleep, general anesthesia will put the whole of you to sleep!

  • In the case of childbirth, general anesthesia is only used in case of complications.
  • In some cases, it can be scheduled, but most of the time it is performed as an emergency measure if labor is difficult or risky.
  • A simple intravenous injection by the anesthesiologist puts you to sleep within minutes. Then it's blackout time!
  • There is no need to panic at the thought of potential general anesthesia: this procedure is relatively rare during childbirth. Do not hesitate to ask your doctor for information.

The back pain I am experiencing!! 😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫 This is the stuff I was warned about when pregnant about the epidural. Reason why I didn’t want it smh. But the hospital refused to do general anesthesia for my emergency C-section so I had no choice. ONLYY to end up getting the anesthesia I wanted to begin with cause I was still feeling touch after the epidural smh… my back hurts so bad I can barely move. It didn’t even hurt this bad when pregnant. HELLPP 😢

I have the same issue. Although this time around is not as bad as the last birth. Epidurals definitely cause back pain/stiffness. I deal with it on and off, and some days are worse than others that i can barely move. I do stretches every morning and in the evenings. I've been dealing with back pain since I've had my oldest almost 17 years ago. The best I've felt is when I lost weight and my back pain went almost completely away.

My little Ava is finally here. My water broke on August 25, and I was admitted that night. I was induced with cervadil and then pitocin. By 6am today, i was still only barely dilated to a 2. I had the epidural, but it failed. They sent me in for an emergency c-section and had to put me under general anesthesia. I’m so thankful we’re both healthy now. 🥰

General anesthesia or spinal anesthesia for infant? Anyone had to experience this with their baby? My son is getting re circumcised on Wednesday and I’m stuck on what I should choose for him.

Why they have to circumcise him again? Did they not do it right the first time?

Has anyone pumped before their delivery? I have 2 surgeries after delivery. One to get my tubes removed and one for varicose veins. I want a milk supply incase the anesthesia messes with it. I was wandering how to get milk flowing. I tried pumping today and all I got was sore nipples. Any tips?

You’ll want to wait to pump Until at least 37 weeks when you’re full term. Nipple stimulation can send you into labor. Use a warm compress and massage before trying to pump. Also make sure the flange is the right size for your nipples. Pumping ultimately shouldn’t hurt but it definitely is an adjustment. If it’s your first baby it might take a little bit before your milk/colostrum kicks in and that’s typically once the placenta detaches so basically once you give birth.

it's My 3rd. And ya I never had milk until after I delivered. I wasn't sure if I could stimulate it quicker. Just for the simple fact of surgery. I really want to breastfeed again. But scared I won't be able to bc of the surgeries.

Hello. I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant with my second child (a girl) and I'm going to be having a planned c section under general anesthesia due to a back issue (spinal fusion when I was 13). I had the same procedure in 2016 when I had my son but I'm still terrified. Does anyone have any good experiences they can share with me? I cry everyday because I'm just so scared.

This is my 4th pregnancy and I’m terrified of the 4th csection 😬 I think you just have to breath in and remember your reward at the end
